AI

Is the AI Apocalypse Inevitable?

  • Two most probable paths: dystopia (centralized by powerful actors), chaos (decentralized and unregulated)
  • We’re doing this because people think it’s inevitable
  • Looking away from the downsides doesn’t stop them from happening
  • We’ve done this before (above-ground nuclear testing, ozone hole)
  • To change we have to (1) agree the current path is unacceptable, (2) commit to find another path under different incentives, with discernment and foresight, where power is matched with responsibility.
  • Example steps… access restriction for kids, developer liability, stronger whistleblower protection, better knowledge of privacy implications
