The Copilot Delusion

“Copilot is like a thoughtless yet high-functioning, practically poor intern.” The article covers some areas where tools like GitHub Copilot can be quite helpful. The author makes arguments about how we have the potential to cede too much of our thinking to these tools and buy into the hype of what tool vendors claim during marketing sessions. Another aspect that resonated with me reminds me of the craftsman mindset: Some people really love engineering and are proud of making performant and maintainable systems.

This is another post about how delegating our thinking, formation, creativity, etc. to an external entity (AI in this case) can make us feel like we’re losing something through atrophy.
