How to Build Career Resilience in Uncertain Times

  1. Identify non-negotiables. Examples… Are you willing to be in the office 5 days a week? Would you take a pay cut for more meaningful work?
  2. Build adaptability and agility. Find ways to work just outside your role, practice self-regulation and recognize your stress triggers, bet on high-value skills (leadership, EQ, reading the room), and make learning part of your job rather than a backup plan.
  3. Deepen relationships. Go beyond your role/company, nurture deep connections vs. collecting people on LinkedIn, and check in on your work best friend.
  4. Create your next best option. Check in quarterly and annually on your skills, energy, and path. Engage in professional groups. Let trusted people know you’re open to new things.
