A friend of mine has the Deep Rock Galactic board game that comes with multiple figures that can be painted.
Here’s a gallery with 22 pictures.
Things I tried / learned:
- Instead of using flat white for the slap-chop zenithal highlights, I used a mid-tone gray to mute the colors that go on top. Not a game changer, but it was something different.
- Because the Army Speedpainter paints are glazes (i.e., not opaque), I mixed one of those colors with a simple acrylic white so that I could drybrush with it.
- I was gifted several colors of Pearlescent liquid acrylic so that I could make the wings have vibrant colors with a sheen. The video game model has a blend of blue and green. I considered having the top of the wing be one color and the underside be another color. I settled on having the lower wings being the same color, and the upper wings being a blend of yellow and green.
- For the photos, I tried some techniques mentioned on my last post. I used white paper as a backdrop, used a single overhead lamp slightly in front of the model, and changed both the white balance and shutter speed on my phone camera.
